James Gunn has acknowledged “outraged” fan outrage following the recent decision to replace Henry Cavill next season superman Consequence.
Last week, fans were furious after Cavill broke the “heartbreaking” news that he would not be reprising his role as Man of Steel, despite being told by the studio to “announce his return in October”.
At the time, Gunn had also confirmed the decision and quashed rumors that it was because he didn’t like Cavill.
Now, almost a week later, on Monday (December 19), Gunn has faced the “unfriendly” backlash from fans, writing in a tweet that when he and co-CEO Peter Safran left the “job as head of DC Studios” took over, “knowing” that there would be a “certain minority of people online who could be, well, rowdy and unfriendly, to say the least.”
“We knew there would be a turbulent time as we entered this gig, and we knew that sometimes we had to make difficult and not-so-obvious decisions, especially given the conflicting nature of what lay ahead.” Gunn added.
“No one loves being harassed or verbally abused – but to be honest, we’ve been through far worse. Disrespectful outcry will never affect our actions.”
He explained that their “decisions” are “made based on what we feel is best for the story and best for the DC characters that have been around for nearly 85 years.”
“Maybe these decisions are great, maybe they’re not, but they’re made with a sincere heart and integrity and always with the story in mind,” Gun said.
Meanwhile, Cavill is reportedly already linked to the star and executive producer of a series adaptation of the game warhammer 40,000.
