James Dolan hires an investigator to follow the State Liquor Authority

Madison Square Garden’s owner, James Dolan, has reportedly hired a private investigator to follow a state liquor agency investigator as the agency seeks to revoke the garden’s liquor license.
Several of Dolan’s properties have been hit with management fees after facial recognition technology was implemented to identify and deny entry to attorneys working on a lawsuit against him.
The exclusion of some garden visitors prompted Charles Stravalle, a New York State Liquor Authority investigator and retired police captain, to determine whether MSG can continue to serve alcohol at Knicks and Rangers games, the New York Times reported.
Banning entry for just a few sports fanatics could violate state beverage laws, which require establishments to admit the general public.

According to the Times, Stravalle called police after a black Chevrolet followed him more than 100 miles to his home in Queens.
After being towed home, the driver of the Chevrolet stayed outside with a camera trained on Stravalle’s home.
The police later stopped the Chevrolet, which eventually became a private investigator.
MSG Entertainment acknowledged it had hired a private investigator to track Stravalle, which is “a common and lawful practice,” according to court filings filed this week.

In addition to MSG, the SLA could also revoke liquor licenses for Radio City Music Hall and Beacon Theater, also owned by Dolan.
In response to the four violations charged against him, Dolan filed a March 11 petition in the Manhattan Supreme Court, asking a judge to stop the SLA offenses and calling the enforcement “an abuse of power.”
“This gangster-like government organization has finally encountered an entity that will not back down from their outrageous abuses,” Dolan told The Post last week.

“While others who have been subjected to this harassment may have been forced into submission or silence, we are taking a stand on behalf of our fans and the many small businesses that have long been exposed to SLA corruption.”
In the fiery 47-page filing, his company claimed the SLA’s “improper actions” were “an attack not only on MSG but also on all of its fans, who will be deprived of the full MSG experience as the SLA prevails and eludes.” MSG the right to serve alcohol at its venues.”
