Episode 323 of Logan Paul’s IMPAULSIVE podcast featured a chat with former MMA fighter Brendan Schaub. The discussion revolved around Conor McGregor’s prospects in a fight with Logan’s younger brother Jake Paul.
Following an offer from Bellator for the Paul brothers to fight properly in MMA bouts and amid wild speculation about a possible fight with McGregor, the Pauls have been linked with UFC stars for quite some time.
Schaub, recalling a conversation with Jake Paul, spoke to the one specific point that prevented a superfight between Conor McGregor and Jake Paul: fighter wages.
Saying that Jake Paul pulled Brendan aside to ask him, “Do you realistically think I could get that Conor fight?” Schaub replied, “I do. That’s why you’re gonna get it… It’s gonna happen, no matter what, if [UFC President Dana White] Play ball or not, you and Conor will eventually fight.”
“Absolutely,” Schaub reiterated the idea, before further explaining, “The only caveat is [Jake will] have to forgo the fighter’s salary.”
This relates to Paul’s repeated and ongoing dispute with the UFC over disputes over fighter pay and healthcare.
In response to the caveat, JP was clear, “I can’t,” he reportedly told Schaub, before continuing, “I’m not going to fight him, if he doesn’t raise the fighter wages it’s not going to happen.”
Pushing Jake on the validity of his quest for a fighter raise, Brendan asked, “Oh, are you serious?” To which the MMA hopeful replied, “I’m dead serious.”
After stating the seriousness of Jake’s desire to fight for higher pay in the UFC, Logan replied, “I didn’t know, I wasn’t sure,” before chuckling and saying “cool.”
Schaub broke down the younger Paul brother’s push for higher fight pay for the UFC athletes, concluding, “Just to explain to viewers, these fighter pay things. It’s like Apple and how they use slave labor to make our iPhones.”
