Jacob Rees-Mogg is officially under investigation by the sleazy watchdog he tried to get rid of a few weeks ago.

The leader of the House of Representatives is facing an investigation over allegations he failed to properly register employment or income information.

Mr. Rees-Mogg played a leading role in the effort to overhaul the Office of the Commissioner for Standards in the wake of Owen Paterson.

He will be investigated under the terms of a code of conduct which states MPs can ‘apply for work at any time from the completion of the work to 28 days after receiving any payment’ .

The Commissioner has not yet set out the scope of the investigation but will come in two weeks after Labor referred senior front people to watchdog over claims surrounding what it described as ‘cheap loans’ ‘.

It was alleged at the time that he ‘failed to declare director’s loans from his company worth £6m between 2018 and 2020’.

Mr. Rees-Mogg has yet to comment publicly on the development.
