Jack Chen says wife Yue Yu abused him, two children: court records

The California dermatologist, who allegedly poisoned her doctor husband, had a long history of mistreating him and their two children — at one point she yelled at the young children to “die,” her estranged spouse claimed.

Jack Chen outlined a long list of alleged disruptive behavior by Ms. Yue “Emily” Yu in a statement in court seeking a restraining order against her on Friday. He is also seeking a divorce after being married for ten years.

“When Emily is frustrated and yells at the kids, she usually uses a Chinese phrase that translates to ‘Go die!’ She also tells the kids, ‘Your head has a problem’, ‘Your head is sick’, ‘Fuck yourself’, ‘Fucking idiot’, ‘Stupid a-hole’ and ‘Get out of the way,'” wrote Chen in the court document obtained by the Post.

Yu was arrested on Thursday after she was accused of trying to poison her husband by repeatedly putting Drano in his hot lemonade. According to the court documents, Chen apparently caught Yu in the act with a nanny camera on video.

No charges have yet been filed in the case, although Chen has been granted a restraining order against his wife.

Chen, a radiologist, said he and his wife met in 2011 and then married on July 4, 2012. But his wife’s behavior became worrying after their two children were born in 2013 and 2014, he said. Yu’s mother, Yuqin “Amy” Gu, also participated in the alleged verbal and physical abuse, he added.

“Almost daily I was insulted by Amy, saying I’m acting like a thug and I’m not acting like a man. Emily called me a ‘f—ing a—hole’ and other insults,” he said.

“Ever since they were two years old, Emily and Amy were verbally and then physically abused [our son and daughter] which intensified with age,” he said. “They abuse me both verbally and physically.”

Chen’s lawyer said they suspect his wife’s behavior has been ongoing for months.

Some of the alleged abuses of the couple’s children include Yu beating her daughter when she was 3 after weeding the bed and hitting her son on the head and arms when he was just 2, said Chen.

Yu even deprived the children, who are now 8 and 7 years old, of sleep if they went to bed before she wanted to, Chen claimed.

“If the children fall asleep without permission, even if she would wake them up after 11 p.m., demand that [they] Go into her room, close the door and make her cry,” he said. “She ended up sometimes telling the kids to get out and then slamming the door behind them so they cried outside her door.”

Chen said the children couldn’t even show him affection without Yu yelling at them. His daughter would not even play tennis with her father or take a picture with him for fear of Yu’s explosive temper, he added.

Yu’s attorney said he had denied all allegations of his client’s alleged abuse.

The children have little contact with friends or other family members, Chen said.

“Our kids have learned that Emily’s rule is everything,” he said. “I’m ignored and not recognized as a family member.”

Yu transferred the children from a school in 2021 after a teacher asked if her son had ADHD, Chen said. When the son started beating other students at the new school, Gu, the mother-in-law, explained away the bad behavior because he had “high energy,” he said.

“When they get home, Amy yells at them, calls them stupid and demands something [our son] “finding better excuses” for his bad behavior,” Chen said.

When the daughter practiced the piano, Yu would relentlessly call her “damn stupid.”

Yu, 45, is affiliated with Providence Mission Hospital, which issued a statement noting her arrest while saying staff were cooperating with authorities.

“Finally, [our daughter] cried and told Emily she couldn’t say ‘f—ing’,” Chen claimed. “Emi scored [our daughter] on the arm told her she was damn stupid!

“Amy came over and told me [our daughter] There are some words that only adults can say and not children, so Emily is right to do what she does.”

And once when the son was playing the piano, Yu was so unhappy that she yelled at him and called him a “fucking idiot,” Chen said. “She was screaming so loud and so close [our son] that she spat on him and made him cry.”

If the two siblings ever express their feelings or say they’re sad, “Emily and Amy will yell at them and say, ‘You’re so ugly, you look like a pig,’ or tell them [our son] “You’re a wimp,” Chen said.
