The Chicago Blackhawks was a pretty good team since firing Jeremy Colliton and hiring Derek King. They’ve been a bubble level team since the change but that won’t make up for it in the NHL. They were playing at the level we expected them to play at before the season started but they were dropped for a bad start to the season.
Not only did they not create any support, but they also lost support. They need to play significantly better than a bubble team to get back into the race. They have some pieces at the top of their roster that can do the job but it needs to come now or never.
It all started Friday night with a home tilt against the Nashville Predators. This Nashville team is fantastic compared to the early season predictions. They came to Chicago with St. Louis Blues for second place in the Central Division.
Juuse Saros is one of the best goalkeepers in the National Hockey League. He will join the conversation for the Vezina Trophy at the end of the season. Hawks need to create traffic and high chance of danger to beat this guy.
They also have Roman Josi, a Norris Trophy contender once again in the background. He is backed by season-striking strikers Matt Duchene and Ryan Johansen. It’s a very good mix of size, skill, youth and veterans that the Hawks will deal with.
The Chicago Blackhawks have two really tough games to play this weekend.
After such a tough game, they had to fly south to take on the Dallas Stars in a head-to-head situation. That is never easy to do, especially with two good Central Division rivals as rivals. Dallas hasn’t had the same level of success as Nashville so far but they’re still mixing for a post-season spot, though that’s unlikely.
Joe Pavelski is a hard-working veteran. Jason Robertson was an outstanding player of the second year. They are leading in Dallas scores with 21 points each. Roope Hintz is third in scoring with 18 points and his 11 points are goals. These are three good strikers to keep an eye on, along with suspects like Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin.
They get really good scoring from Jake Oettinger and Braden Holtby so creating those high dangerous chances is a must. Miro Heiskanen and Ryan Suter led the defense to round out a team of pretty good stars.
The Hawks will need their best to win these games. It’s not ideal against two tough opponents in a travel head-to-head, but it’s ideal. Hopefully they can handle their business at home and on the road.
