‘It’s a surprise’: Expert reacts to what he hears about Liverpool’s Alisson Becker

Shaka Hislop says he is “surprised” that Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker is being linked with a potential transfer to Saudi Arabia.

The 30-year-old is one of Jurgen Klopp’s most important players and was their best player in the last 12 months of the decline.

But with the ever-growing Saudi Pro League knocking on their door again, Hislop believes Liverpool shouldn’t worry about a thing as Alisson Becker has “four years left on his contract”, he said ESPN.

Of course that means everything because this game is about money and you don’t know how the players will behave with the suggestion that he would be open to a move.

What’s worse for the Reds is that he’s not the only current Liverpool player to be linked with a Middle East transfer, with Mohammed Salah’s name also in the picture.

Another problem is that the Saudis can buy players after the summer transfer window in England closed, with former Premier League goalkeeper Hislop sharing his thoughts.

“If English clubs decide not to sell then don’t do it, it’s as simple as that,” Hislop said.

“Alisson, it’s a surprise to see him linked and given the money the Saudis have spent I’m sure his interest has peaked. However, there are still four years left on his Liverpool contract

“So if Liverpool decide, we’re not going to sell you on August 28. If we don’t sell you on September 10, then we won’t sell you on September 10, 2025, that’s within your rights.”

“Of course Alisson can say something about that. Screw it, but he still has quite a long contract to wait out.”

Liverpool have sold before…

There is no doubt that when money is put on the table for the likes of Alisson and Salah, those in power at Anfield will always slap it away.

But they got themselves into a tight spot and that means they previously accepted Saudi money.

The departures of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho were not planned for this summer but given Liverpool have accepted offers for them the same people will be knocking as they have the England team’s number on their short code and want to do business again.
