Houston police announced Friday that 28-year-old Gregory Allen has been charged with murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and has been arrested in the murder of Italy McGregor, 24.
Just after 2 a.m. on New Year’s Day, McGregor was shot in the parking lot of the Five Nine Bar and Lounge on S. Wilcrest in southwest Houston. Her boyfriend and another man suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
According to Houston police, they had just left the club when a heated exchange of words broke out and the two men pulled out guns and began shooting.
McGregor died in the parking lot.
McGregor had three children: two boys and a girl. Her youngest child is only 2 months old.
This woman also has a hair braiding business. Her family is proud to share videos of her work.
McGregor is from the small town of Bellville, 65 miles from Houston. But in the big city, she became the first murder victim of 2022 after two years of a rise in homicides.
In 2019, there were 277 homicides. In 2020, this number has increased to 400, and 2021 ends with 474 homicides. So far in 2022, there have been three homicides within Houston city limits.
McGregor family shared a GoFundMe bonded to help the children she left behind.
An unidentified second man is still on the run. Police described him as a Black male between the ages of 26 and 29, with a medium to heavy build and a full beard.
Meanwhile, the bond for Allen is $600,000: $500,000 for murder and $100,000 for aggravated assault with use of a deadly weapon.
He is expected to return to court on January 10.
Witnesses told police that the suspects were left in a white Dodge Charger. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Houston Police Department at (713) 308-3600 or the Houston Crime Stoppers.
