“It looked like a farm”

Stevie Nicks and the rest of Fleetwood Mac spent a lot of time in fierce battles, but they also had fun together. She shared that during the tour they would play pranks on managers, bandmates and anyone else who was with them. However, according to Nicks, the jokes were more well thought out than one would expect. She described the types of pranks they used to pull when they were together.
Stevie Nicks and the other members of Fleetwood Mac spent a lot of time fighting
When Nicks first joined Fleetwood Mac, the band was mostly couples. She and longtime boyfriend Lindsey Buckingham bonded and starred alongside a married couple John and Christine McVie. Mick Fleetwood was married, though not to anyone in the group.
When the band wrote and recorded Nick’s second album with the group, rumours, Every band member was single, each had gone through messy breakups. Despite the turbulent atmosphere, Nicks said she’s still grateful to be a part of the group.
“Sometimes I think that not even the most bubbly, wildest soap opera compares to Fleetwood Mac,” she told Record Mirror in 1989, per The Nicks fix. “We laughed a lot and bled a lot in the band and I don’t think there’s any other group of people I could work with. There is such chemistry and a sense of love and respect between us.”
She shared the kind of pranks they played on each other
When the band members weren’t involved in relationship drama and arguments over music, they were enjoying their time together.
“Oh yeah, we’ve had some wonderful, crazy times,” she said. “But I think we’ve always been too sophisticated to be your average hotel wrecking crew.”
She explained that they often played pranks on tours.
“We always thought a little bit about the pranks we did,” she shared. “I remember we were playing in Hawaii on the last night of a tour and someone put chickens in the road manager’s room. It looked like a farm because someone had laid out straw everywhere too. And then we had this amazing fight with chocolate mousse cakes. I was wearing a white chiffon outfit and my gorgeous white suede boots. I never cleaned up the dirt properly.”
Their lives revolved so much around music that they had to find ways to relax.
“We’ve lived a high-pressure existence, we’ve spent most of our lives on the streets for a long time,” she said. “We had to let off steam”
Fleetwood Mac members once teased Stevie Nicks when she injured her eyes
However, Nicks wasn’t always the one to pull pranks. At one point, she was the target of the band’s jokes. Nicks forgot to remove her contacts during a 48 hour party, left their cornea damaged. For a short time, her vision was so severely impaired that she needed help with everyday tasks. Her bandmates took advantage of that.
“They put outrageous outfits on her — ‘You look very pretty today,’ we all grin — they put food and drink out of their reach and set up booby traps,” Buckingham’s then-girlfriend Carol Ann Harris said, according to the book Stevie Nicks: Visions, Dreams & Rumours by Zoe Howe. “Very childish, but we laughed like idiots.”
