Is Sean Penn in Ukraine? The actor continues to make documentaries about the Russian invasion

NEW YORK – Actor and filmmaker Sean Penn is in Ukraine to continue making a documentary about Russia’s constant attack.

The President’s office wrote in a Facebook post on Thursday that Penn attended press conferences, met with Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk and spoke to journalists and military personnel about the Russian invasion.

“Sean Penn demonstrates a courage that many others, especially Western politicians lack,” the president’s office wrote on Facebook. “The special director came to Kiev to document all the events that are currently happening in Ukraine and to tell the world the truth about the Russian invasion of our country.”

He was also there at the end of November working on the project that is being produced by VICE Studios. Photos taken at the time show him visiting the front lines of the Ukrainian Armed Forces near the Donetsk region.

The Oscar winner has been involved in many international humanitarian and anti-war efforts over the years and founded the non-profit disaster relief organization CORE in response to the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, documented in the documentary “Citizen Penn.”

A representative for Penn did not immediately respond to a request for comment. VICE Studios was not immediately available for comment.
