Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin tests positive for COVID after meeting President Biden

The Prime Minister of Ireland pulled out of a St. Patrick’s Day meeting in Washington DC with President Joe Biden after testing positive for COVID-19.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin, 61, had interacted with Biden but was not in close contact with the president Wednesday, the White House said.

Martin tested positive and left the Ireland Funds Gala at the National Building Museum, where he sat without a mask alongside House Speaker Nancy Pelosi while Biden made remarks.

Martin took a precautionary PCR test after a member of his delegation tested positive, The Irish Times reported.

News of his illness came a day after the second gentleman, Doug Emhoff tested positive for the virus after his wife, Vice President Kamala Harris, spent the day with Biden.
