Iranian actresses Hengameh Ghaziani and Katayoun Riahi were arrested after defiantly opposing the government

High-profile Iranian actresses Hengameh Ghaziani and Katayoun Riahi were arrested after publicly declaring their solidarity with dissidents in the anti-Iranian government.
As the BBC reported on Iran’s state-run Irna news agency, the women were accused of collusion and acting against the Iranian authorities.
On Sunday, Ghaziani shared an Instagram video of himself wearing a headscarf on a public street in the state capital, Tehran. The act is considered illegal in the highly conservative Islamic country.
This comes as Iran has exploded with protests against the country’s vice squad following the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini after she was arrested by police for not wearing a head covering. Protesters were also killed in the government’s response.
“This could be my last post. From this moment on, if anything happens to me, know that I will always be with the people of Iran until my last breath,” the 52-year-old captioned her Instagram post.
Famous actress Riahi was also arrested on Sunday by order of Iranian prosecutors.
BBC journalist Ali Damedani said she was “one of the first actresses to appear in public without the mandatory hijab” following the assassination of Mafsa Amini.

Since September, following the death of Ms. Amini, the government has been plagued by defiant statements from angry citizens.
The young Kurdish woman is said to have been killed three days after she was taken into custody by the Iranian Morality Police.
The dissent has even extended to the soccer World Cup. Ahead of their game against England, the Iran team staged a notable protest as each player remained silent while their pre-match national anthem was played.
