Across the Hudson River and into the woods – back to Broadway she goes!
Into the Woods returns to the Great White Way this summer with another star cast.
Sara Bareilles will reprise her Off-Broadway role as Baker’s Wife and Gavin Creel will reprise her role as Prince of Wolf/Cinderella.
However, Neil Patrick Harris and Tony winner Heather Headley won’t be back for this run of the show. Instead, Brian D’Arcy James will take on the role of Harris as the baker and Patina Miller will replace Headley as the witch.
Also joining the cast are “Hamilton” star Phillipa Soo, who will shine as Cinderella, and “Tik, Tik…BOOM!” actor Joshua Henry, who will wow audiences as Rapunzel’s Prince.
The popular musical by James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim will run at the St James Theater with previews beginning June 28, with the premiere scheduled for July 10 during a strictly limited eight week engagement.
The popular show – which has been revived several times since its incarnation by Bernadette Peters in 1987 and adapted into a star-studded film in 2014 – is about a mishmash of fairy tales, including Cinderella, Hans and the Beanstalk, Rapunzel and Little Red Riding Hood.
This iteration of the show is dedicated to Sondheim’s memory. The acclaimed composer, credited with reinventing the American musical, died in November 2021 at the age of 91.
The show ended a limited two-week run on May 15 with New York City Center Encores! but this upcoming revival will mark the first time the show has returned to Broadway in 20 years.
Stay tuned for the encores! Directed by Lear deBessonet, with musical direction by Rob Berman and the Encores Orchestra and choreography by Lorin Latarro.
