Industry Star Marisa Abela is the top choice to play Amy Winehouse in the biopic Back to blackinsiders are said to have said.

The 25-year-old actress – best known for her starring role as Yasmin Yazdani on the financial drama – is reportedly the front-runner for the role of the Grammy-winning actress in StudioCanal’s upcoming film.

sources told meeting that Abela was the producers’ first choice after she blew them away in a singing test at her audition in June.

Several other actors have been tested for the role, but sources close to StudioCanal and the film’s director Sam Taylor-Johnson said Abela remains the preferred contender.

However, it is reported that while additional elements are still being ironed out, a formal offer has not yet been released.

The Independent has reached out to Abela’s rep for comment.

The project was screenplayed by Matt Greenhalgh, who also wrote the screenplay for control, the 2007 film about the life of Ian Curtis of the post-punk band Joy Division. Also, he wrote in 2009 Nowhere boy about John Lennon, which was also directed by Taylor-Johnson.
