Inbox Games: What’s the Best Game Pass Game?

Inbox Wednesday tries to understand the psychology of whales and microtransactions, as one reader suggested PlayStation Now.

More than one Pass
I see that Aliens: Fireteam Elite is launching the Game Pass in a couple of weeks, which is great because I quite enjoy playing the game but don’t want to buy it because the reviews are mediocre. Which got me thinking, what’s the best thing about Game Pass? Is it about getting to play top games at no extra cost or maybe getting a chance to buy things you would never buy except for a cheap discount?

Obviously the answer is a bit of both but it’s a great service, though I admit it’s basically just Microsoft turning on godly mode, as no one else can afford to do it. the same, similar.

I don’t want to talk about corporate bullies, though, but the real question is: what’s the best game on Game Pass? I’d say there’s a good argument that it’s Forza Horizon 5, which for me is the only first party game that I’ve really enjoyed so far. As for the other games, Control and Doom Eternal are great but I think my favorite is Hades which is a great mix between something I would never normally buy and a really great game. Best Game Pass!

Is Game Pass sustainable? I don’t know, but it was more than it paid for in itself, as I thought.

Now streaming
I signed up for PlayStation Now the other day, I wanted to play The Last Of Us Part 2 and that seemed like the fastest way to play.

Sony doesn’t seem to push it much, and PlayStation Plus and overall don’t seem to garner as much attention as Game Pass, but I’m really surprised by the reliability of the streaming and the variety of games. available.

I’m not really sure about the quality of the game selection in the past, but it’s certainly good now, and worth revisiting if you haven’t done so in a while.

Take your time
Treat me like someone else hoping for the new BioShock Leak is real because I think the obvious choice would be to do some sort of prequel in Rapture again, and I’m really glad they didn’t.

That assumption is true, of course, but what is certain to be true is that 2K isn’t in a hurry to release a sequel yet. Instead, they gave their developers time to work on the game and time for people to really miss the franchise, rather than just scrapping a new franchise each year.

BioShock isn’t even necessarily my favorite or anything but I enjoyed it and the thought that the sequel is really trying to do the right thing, in terms of spending time, makes me more interested. Now, just make sure it works at launch and not six months later, and we’re really talking.

No pre-orders
So if they haven’t even started Half-Life 3 yet, does that mean it won’t at best launch until 2027? Probably later as it doesn’t look like they’ll be jumping on it right away in the new year. I just don’t get it. Gabe Newell doesn’t like making video games anymore, does he? If he didn’t, wouldn’t someone at Valve do it? Or can’t they just give it to some fans – remake filmmakers – to make it?

I just don’t get it. Those who remember the ending will die of old age before Valve gets to work on making the game. It just seems like a pointless waste.

Money
Therefore Ludwig has left Twitch because they don’t show him love? What a piece of trash! The reason why he says so is because they don’t give him more money that’s why he’s back to YouTube. Just another Youtuber who watches money.

He needs to know that to get respect, you have to earn it. Twitch showed him that by offering him more money the first time around, and how does he respect them? Back to YouTube! He needs to look up the word respect, maybe find out what it means.

GC: Why shouldn’t he run after money? Are you suggesting that you wouldn’t be in his place?

Horses in front of the carriage
RE: Darius. I’m not sure you can blame the Broken Combat Pass System on the ‘Microsoft Moderator’. Someone at 343i was recruited to figure this system out, and it turned out to be horribly broken.

It makes more sense to me to give XP based on your performance in the game, and any challenges are mode agnostic. Complete three objectives than catch three flags.

The lack of XP being rewarded in the game and XP being only at multiples of 50 almost seems like the 343i designed a point-based progressive system so it seems a bit confusing to call it XP.

They are preparing for the second overhaul of the battle, so I am sure it will be perfect by December… 2022.

A much bigger issue for me by far is the prevalence of PC players in most of the game modes I’ve played. Their ability to rotate and unload their entire pistol instantly completely changed how much I enjoyed the game.

After finding the controller-only options list, I was in heaven, really dueling with other players (and sometimes winning) and if I could jump on my opponent, that was it. really an advantage. Sadly, it’s only available in single/double rated playlists right now.

Arranging cross-play so old guys like me can enjoy Halo should be the 343’s main priority in my humble opinion.

GC: By far the biggest push seems to be having keyboard and mouse options on the console. This is basically the opposite of what you want.

Strange rumors
So this whole Chrono Cross thing is pretty weird, isn’t it? I love Chrono Cross but what made them choose that game, out of all things, for the remake? And why not Chrono Trigger? Why is such a classic game always ignored and never re-released?

It all seems very strange but I can see, as the GC suggested, how the success of NieR might have convinced Square Enix to do it. Here’s hoping it’s true, but is there any real proof so far?
Bingo

GC: There was an Untitled Another Eden for Square Enix crossover reveal event on Saturday, so half the rumor looks like it’ll be verifiable.

Whale hunting
I mentioned before that I use Reddit for information on games, it comes in very handy, and of the people who will tell you a game is great to justify their own purchase, they feel If you think you must like it once you buy it, there will be a handful of people who will give you an honest opinion.

A little while ago I saw a post on one of the game subscribers saying that to unlock everything in the new Halo it will cost more than a thousand units of real money, they didn’t specify it as dollars. or pounds.

I replied to the post saying it was crazy to spend so much real money on a game, but what really surprised me were the replies I got to my answer.

One person told me they spoke to people who have spent over 100,000 on certain mobile games.

I also have some people saying that FIFA is similar to Halo, and it seems there are a lot of people on that thread who don’t have any issues with it.

Coincidentally last night I saw STALKER 2 for Xbox Series X listed for £319 on Amazon, I almost had a heart attack from being curious about that game, then I could see that it was the Ultimate Edition , but still.

Obviously there’s a big difference between the intrinsic value these high spenders see in a video game and what I see. I can pay between £60 and £70 for an AAA game with no microtransactions, if it’s FromSoftware and maybe Bethesda, I’d be happy to pay for DLC as well because those two games have proven to be reliable when it comes to giving out valuable DLC – aside from horse armor, but that’s it.

I’m not paying real money for nice skins or for more powerful gear and weapons, I just want to not play a game set up like that.

When I ask the person who says they know people who have spent a hundred thousand dollars on a mobile game, what is the reward? What do they take for their money? They never replied to me, but someone else said ‘sexy wafu’ so I don’t know what to think about that mentality.

I understand that people can spend their own money on whatever they like but it seems like a big waste to me. Not to mention the problems it causes for the rest of us when once respected companies that make quality games like Ubisoft decide they want to get in on the action – they gain huge profits but lose their integrity, their soul.

I’m curious how other readers and the GC themselves see this, I know the genie is out of the jar and now there’s no putting it back but surely people can’t be okay with this ?

GC: Only a small percentage of players spend such money, that’s why publishers call them whales. It definitely happens though and it’s completely confusing.

Inbox also-rans
Hey, thought you might like this site sells Halo themed tea bags (for obvious reasons).

GC: We won’t lie, Pine Needler is a great name.

I’m not ‘terrible’ but Resident Evil Village is definitely midway for serious, if not actual, subordinates.

Hot topic of this week
The topic for this weekend’s Inbox was suggested by reader Straybe, who asked you what’s the best acting you’ve ever seen in a video game?

Even if you don’t know the names of the actors involved, which character do you think is best acted in terms of voice and/or motion capture performance? What’s their best shot (try to avoid spoiling) and how do you think it compares to a live action media performance?

To what extent do you tend to perceive good or bad action in video games and how important is it to you to enjoy the game? Also, are there any bad enough to get you into a good game?
