Zack Britton still expects to be back in the Yankees’ bullpen sometime this season.

If he can return, the Yankees will have the starred pen they envisioned when they exercised his $14 million 2022 option after the 2020 season (thereby preventing Britton from playing a becomes a free agent).

The move hasn’t paid off yet. Britton struggled with COVID (5.89 ERA, 14 walks in 18.1 innings) after an offseason battle last year before being sidelined with an elbow problem that eventually led to season-ending surgery. In the Yankees’ bullpen plan for 2022 and beyond
