I’m doing bank as a Mariah Carey lookalike for Christmas

All people want for Christmas is this Mariah Carey look-alike.

The holiday season has become a blessing for Suellen Carey, who is spending the month of December performing as a pop superstar.

Carey, who shares the same last name as the “Fantasy” singer, was first said to look like Mariah when she began her gender reassignment surgery over a decade ago at the age of 23.

Now the Brazilian-born diva has said her bookings have jumped nearly 150% over the holiday season thanks to her striking resemblance to the famous singer.

“People always said I looked like Mariah, but I never thought I could make a career out of that resemblance,” joked the 35-year-old. “It’s been over 12 years since I started my transition. A lot of people said I looked like Mariah Carey.”

While the London-based woman now spends her days appearing at shows or having “a lot of VIP appearances,” Carey said she was initially afraid people would point out similarities because she felt like people would call her a “diva” with a negative connotation.

“At first I thought people would even bully me because Mariah is a diva, but then I realized that wasn’t the case,” she said.

Carey said she only started capitalizing on her talents in 2019 after being invited to perform at a lookalike party.

Suellen Carey - who switched when she was about 23 - was told in the early stages of her transition that she bore several similarities to the famous singer.

Now, the look-alike says she’s doing “four to five events a week through Christmas” during the holiday season and manages to rake in nearly $18,000 by December 25th.

“Christmas is definitely the time when I work the most because of Mariah’s Christmas music and of course my looks,” said Carey.

“Everyone knows Mariah – she’s really become the owner of Christmas. Everyone sings or at least knows ‘All I Want For Christmas’.”

"People have always said that I look like Mariah, but I never thought I could make a career out of that resemblance." joked the 35-year-old.

However, the road to becoming the Christmas Queen’s doppelganger was not cheap. Following the Brazilian model, she had to undergo multiple surgeries that cost a whopping $10,000.

“I’ve had the boobs done twice, I’ve also had rhinoplasty, liposuction and brachioplasty – I’ve removed excess skin to give my arms a more youthful and athletic contour,” the model recalled.

“I changed my implants twice,” she said. “The first time because I didn’t have boobs that I put on [in] 450ml and after a few years I wanted bigger so I got 750ml [implants] today.”

Carey recalled a hilarious moment when a security guard was convinced it actually was her "hero" Singer.

“After having the rhinoplasty and face fillers, I think I looked a lot like her. When I do makeup and hair like her, I look a lot like her,” she added.

Along the way, she had some funny reactions to the uncanny resemblance. Carey recalled a hilarious moment when a security guard was convinced she was in fact the “Hero” singer while attending a Mariah performance.

“At one of their shows, the venue security guarded me when I arrived as if I were them until I explained it. It was very confusing,” Carey recalls. “They thought I was them because I [looked] identical to her that day.”

But Carey said she’s often stopped in the street by those who think she’s the “Always Be My Baby” singer – and has a hilarious response.

“People are very surprised at how I look. A lot of them are screaming, ‘My God, it’s Mariah Carey, are you twins?'” she said.

“I usually joke and answer ‘yes,’ but I don’t have all those dollars in the bank.”
