There comes a time in every relationship when one party begins to wonder what’s going on.
They will wonder, “Is this going anywhere?” We’re just friend? “” Do they want a monopoly? ”
But according to one relationship expert, it was a big mistake.
Nick Viall, host of the podcast The Viall Files and a three-time contestant on The Bachelor franchise, explain Why asking to define your relationship is a taboo to get what you want.
On his podcast, Nick gets calls from people asking for relationship advice.
One caller said she asked her partner “where is this going”, adding that she had been seeing this man for a month.
However, she didn’t want to keep asking him to define their relationship because it was “humiliating”.
Nick asks her why she feels humiliated and she replies, “Because I knew he would reject me”, Nick questioned, “Reject you or refuse what you want?”
He explained that when the caller asked where her relationship was going, it was her first mistake.
Instead of asking to define the relationship, she needs to be honest and straightforward in saying what she wants.
Nick said: “You say it confidently. That’s how you define the relationship.
“You don’t ask, you say.”
Nick provided another side of wisdom in the comments section when someone asked: “Why do relationships need to be so complicated… Feels like a game at this point – Trying to play cards yours is right instead of genuine.”
“It’s because we’re afraid to be authentic lest people reject our truest self,” he replied.
