Luckily for those who deal with garden weeds, an expert has revealed a few homemade methods that are both chemical-free and effective.

“There’s nothing more disheartening than seeing hours of hard work in the garden ruined by pesky weeds that seem to sprout out of nowhere,” said a spokesman for GardeningExpress.co.uk.

While there are hundreds of different products on the market, these typically contain a large number of chemicals that can be harmful.

You not only protect the planet, but also your bank account, because the home remedies cost next to nothing.

One such product, according to the expert, is vinegar.

The acidic nature of vinegar, a kitchen staple, “kills everything it touches,” reports the Express.

But it’s important to know that this solution won’t work on deep-rooted perennials and may only burn the visible parts of the weed.

“It’s very effective on small weeds, but it can also alter your soil to prevent things from growing there in the future, so it’s best to only use it on cobblestone or gravel driveways.”

”Just put it in a sprayer and spray it on the leaves and stems of weeds.”

Another gardening favorite worth incorporating into your routine is salt — a mineral that has been used as a pesticide and herbicide-pesticide for decades.

For the ultimate weedkilling solution, avid gardeners should dilute 3 parts water to 1 part salt and leave the remedy on for 10 minutes – this will ensure the salt grains are fully dissolved.

“Spray desired weeds with the salty solution, but do not use on lawns, salt can be absorbed into your soil and prevent future growth,” the experts continued.

Boiling hot water is another tool that can help destroy growing weeds—but since it can instantly kill anything in sight, gardeners should make sure the water stays as close to the weeds as possible.

GardeningExpress.co.uk also suggested baking soda, especially for weeds that peek through cracks.

just like salt baking sodaalso known as sodium bicarbonate, is high in salt content – and when exposed to high doses of it, weeds cannot survive.

This makes it the perfect solution for driveways and patios to avoid killing healthy grass and other vegetation you don’t want to destroy.

Mulch, which is often used to add vitamins to the soil, can not only help get rid of unwanted weeds, it can also help prevent them.

The experts explained, “Lay mulch with newspaper and cardboard to eliminate existing weeds while halting the growth of the next generation of weeds.”

Another weed killer in your kitchen cupboard is cornmeal gluten.

As an organic herbicide and free from toxic chemicals, it can also be used to treat weeds.

To do this, GardeningExpress.co.uk recommended simply sprinkling the solution over the soil to discourage crabgrass and dandelions from growing.

Gardeners can also try using rubbing alcohol mixed with water to make an effective homemade weed killer.

According to experts, the alcohol deprives weeds, like any plant, of the moisture they need to survive.
