When I saw the naked Rihanna meeting Prince Charles in Barbados last week, I thought, “Go on, girl!”
Stunning in an orange two-piece dress, her breasts look stunning – and her nipples are definitely exposed.
Of course, her pass-through lingerie approach to the royal presence has surprised some.
But singer and underwear entrepreneurs have long been advocates of wearing bras. And she’s not the only famous face to be on trend right now.
Singer Little Mix Leigh-Anne Pinnock, 30, left her bra at home during the film’s premiere of Gifting Day last week. She wore a strapless backless dress which she later adapted to breastfeed her four-month-old twins. And this week, she’s out again without support, wearing a bold black lace dress to the Mobo Awards.
At 42, I always dress revealingly, from red carpet events to casual occasions. I’m all for freeing nips. It’s sexier than having you pushed up your chin. It’s more subtle and tantalizing.
Just as locking our doors made us realize we could cope without the daily coffee take-out and weekly manicures, we made it through without the stifling confines of our lives. we have worn for many years. Hallelujah.
One survey found that locking up resulted in 46% of women dropping their bras at least once a week.
Bras have only been around for 100 years, so who says we really need them? There is no conclusive evidence they prevent sagging.
For me, talking without a face is the ultimate body confidence tool. It is liberating and empowering. Now, more than ever, women are embracing their bodies and feeling more comfortable in their own skin.
In this cautious country, binge eating is still seen as crossing the line. When I’ve spent time in the US, or when I’ve worked in Europe, that’s normal. But not here where we just see this progression and realize body confidence is important.
Obviously there are certain times, especially if you have larger breasts, when you need to prop yourself up. I have to admit I have DDs, have had slightly advanced surgery since breastfeeding – I was 32C before. But I always stay away from my bra, except when exercising.
And I’m happy to see women my age and older do the same. People who like Victoria Beckham, 47, Jennifer Aniston, 52 and Amanda Holden, 50 years old, doesn’t usually wear a bra – and that gives you confidence. They look amazing.
It’s not all about your clone. I usually don’t wear a bra under a smart, ripped collared suit.
Dressing revealingly under a simple blouse or white t-shirt can make you the sexiest woman in the room.
In the fashion world, it is a fairly common look. “Flirty shirts” are huge this winter.
From Gucci to Michael Kors, models dressed in blazers and and button-down, bra-less shirts have been hugely popular on the catwalks.
It adds a hint of sensuality to what would otherwise be a masculine look. It’s all about the allure of what lies underneath. Plus, it’s a lot more comfortable. You never have the urge to take your bra off at the end of the day because it’s already ingrained in your hips.
It’s also a lot easier to dress up. You don’t have to worry about what color bra to wear or if your straps are exposed. But not everyone is on board. I remember wearing a braless dress to the National Reality Television Awards.
The next day, some insulting comments were made to me by another school mother as I dropped my ten-year-old daughter. It’s something about how the hell I managed to keep my chest. And I just thought, “I’m hugging my body, and you’re obviously not”.
My husband, 12-year-old daughter and six-year-old son, don’t care how I dress, why anyone else.
I encourage all women to try braless, not just at home while you’re lounging around in your sweater, but out and about.
I encourage all women to try braless, not only at home while you’re lounging around in a sweater, but out and about – in your best heels and your favorite mini dress.
It doesn’t matter the shape or size of your bust, or whether you are natural or enhanced, as long as you are confident.
You will look and feel a million dollars.
