I’m 25 and I was a teenager when I decided I didn’t want children

A YOUNG woman has made the big decision to stop having children and has finally found a doctor who will sterilize her.

Abby Ramsay, 25, has revealed she has been waging a six-year battle during which she has begged a number of doctors to perform the surgery.

They had all turned her down because they thought she was “too young” to make a “lasting decision” and instead told her to “seek therapy.”

Abby, from LA, California, is asexual and said she realized at age 16 that she didn’t want children because she had the huge responsibility of raising another human being.

She decided she wanted to have surgery after struggling with normal forms of birth control because birth control made her “sick” and she had a “strong fear of foreign objects inside her,” which ruled out IUDs.

She also said condoms weren’t 100 percent effective, which made her afraid to have sex.

Earlier this year, Abby, who is a model and actress, finally found a doctor willing to perform the surgery, and on February 4 she went under the knife.

Abby had a bilateral salpingectomy.

This meant doctors removed her fallopian tubes — and an endometrial ablation — in which they removed a layer of the lining of the uterus.

The operations were both successful.

Accordingly NHSremoving the fallopian tubes prevents the egg cell from reaching the sperm and being fertilized.

There are several ways to block the fallopian tubes, including putting on plastic or titanium “clamps”, inserting the tube through a silicone ring that clamps in place, or tying off, cutting and removing a piece of the tube – which Abby does chosen for.

She further opened up about her experience tick tock Earlier this year, and her story quickly went viral, with the original video racking up more than three million views since it was posted in February.

She wrote in the clip, “After about six years of trying… I finally found a doctor who listened! This goes to everyone who didn’t.

“I look forward to taking control of my own body. I’m not a baby maker.”

In another video, she also said that being pregnant was a “terrible” experience.

Abby, who is committed to her partner Kurt, decided to have the surgery after years of struggling to find “peace of mind” about birth control.

She explained how she went to her first appointment with the doctor, whose name was not given, and carried pages of documents with information about the procedure and her reasoning.

“She didn’t have to [the documents]’ Abby said. “All it took her was to listen to me for five minutes before saying ok and immediately give me my options and procedures that she thought might be right for me.

“I almost burst into tears of joy. I didn’t know how much I just needed someone to listen to me for once. To think that maybe I knew myself better than they did.”

Without insurance, Abby said her bill would have been about $116,000, but her total expenses came to $1,000.

She concluded: “While I have many reasons why I don’t want to conceive and not have children – from genetics to fears and medical concerns – at the end of the day.

“I don’t want to have children” is reason enough and should be respected.”
