Illegal immigrant Bryan Marquez is charged with the murder of a roommate

An undocumented immigrant living in Florida has allegedly confessed to murdering his roommate over a plate of food that was thrown on the ground and then partially burying the victim in a yard, police said.

Bryan Marquez, 22, was charged with first-degree murder on Wednesday, two days after police arrived on a tip at a Fort Pierce property where the suspect had rented a shed and discovered a human foot sticking out of the ground Court.

The Fort Pierce Police Department said in an arrest affidavit obtained by The Post that responding officers observed a makeshift grave about 18 inches deep that contained the body of a man between the ages of 35 and 45.

Investigators collected blood samples found in the yard along with rocks, gloves, plywood, shovels and a blanket.

An autopsy performed on the victim revealed the man had severe facial injuries, a broken nose and fractured ribs. The cause of death was determined to be blunt force trauma.

Marquez, wearing a pair of white shorts stained with dirt and suspected blood, was taken in for questioning and allegedly admitted to killing his roommate, whom he only knew as “Guanajuato,” according to the affidavit.

The 22-year-old suspect told investigators that the victim threw a plate of food on the floor and disregarded Marquez, who did not immediately respond to the insult.

After getting drunk later that night, Marquez said he decided to confront his roommate about the earlier incident and proceeded to punch Guanajuato in the ribs and face and knock him to the ground.

When Guanajuato was down, Marquez said he grabbed dirt and gravel and shoved them into the victim’s mouth twice, the court document said.

Marquez then yelled at Guanajuato to get up, and when the man didn’t move or breathe, he said he realized the victim was dead.

Instead of calling 911, Marquez said he grabbed the victim’s feet, dragged him to another part of the yard, buried him in a hastily dug hole, and then fell asleep.

The coroner who performed the Guanajuato autopsy found that gravel and soil found in the man’s larynx, trachea, lungs and stomach contributed to his death by blocking his airway.

Sergeant Charles Donnon of the Fort Pierce Police Department told CBS12 that before he was charged with murder last week, Marquez was in Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody and was about to be deported back to his native Mexico.

Donnon revealed that both Marquez and his victim were undocumented immigrants living in Florida illegally.

“We received information on Tuesday that he has already contacted his family and is getting a bus ticket to go back to Mexico, so hair is up,” the police sergeant said. “We want to make sure we don’t release anyone who has committed this horrific crime.”

As of Monday, Marquez remained in the St. Lucie County Jail without bail.
