I “wouldn’t exist” if Uma Thurman didn’t have an abortion

Maya Hawke got personal about her mother Uma Thurman’s previous abortion.
The 23-year-old – whose father is Ethan Hawke – opened up about the Pulp Fiction star’s parenting during an appearance on Tuesday “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.”
She discussed the Supreme Court’s recent decision to overturn Roe vs. Wade and criticized the outcome.
The ‘Stranger Things’ star also shared how touching Thurman’s 2021 op-ed was in The Washington Post, in which she opened up about having an abortion as a teenager.
Regarding Roe vs. Wade, Hawke told Fallon: “[I] called my mother today to ask her advice if I should come and talk to you.”
“We were just talking about the Supreme Court ruling and this essay my mother wrote a few months ago when they imposed these further restrictions on access to abortion that sort of pre-dated this whole thing,” she added.

Hawke said her parents’ lives would have been thrown off course if the Kill Bill actress had chosen a different path.
“My mother wrote this really beautiful essay about her abortion when she was very young and how if she hadn’t had it she wouldn’t have become the person she has become and I wouldn’t exist. ‘ Hawke revealed.
“Both my parents’ lives would have been derailed if they hadn’t had access to safe and legal health care — basic health care,” she continued.

The New York native explained that although “wealthy people will always be able to get abortions,” the Supreme Court ruling would affect the lives of others who “not only won’t be able to achieve their dreams , but actually lose their lives”.
“So I just wanted to say fuck the Supreme Court. But we’re going to keep fighting and winning like our grandmothers did,” Hawke said.
In the comment, Thurman admitted her “darkest secret,” saying she had an abortion in her “late teens.”
She wrote at the time that by writing the article she hopes “some light will shine through and reach women and girls who may feel ashamed that they cannot protect themselves and have no agency.”
