SUN reader Ian Black has won £2 million on a Lotto scratch card he bought on a whim while receiving his favorite paper.
Factory worker Ian Black, 61, nearly skipped the store on his way home from a night shift because of road work.
At the last moment, he changed his heart and pulled over to collect his copy of The Sun.
While shopping for paper, he spotted the Monopoly Deluxe Scratchcard and decided to buy one of the £5 cards.
He scratched it in his car and was stunned to find it was one of five winners of the £2million jackpot.
The father of five screamed with joy and ran home to tell his wife Sandra, 55.
Ian, of Carlisle, Cumbria, says: “Something told me to buy it.
“I walked out of the store and sat scratching it – I couldn’t believe what I was seeing.
“I screamed and immediately drove home. When I entered the house, I yelled for Sandra to come downstairs.
“She immediately thought something was wrong with the dog. I said: ‘No, we won £2 million.’
“She thought it was all a joke – but then she looked at the card and almost fainted. Sandra was empty-handed.
“I think I barely went into the store that morning because of road work. I was actually very close to the last drive. ”
The couple has yet to make their shopping list complete but above all will be the cost of surgery for their rescue dog Meg, a Labrador Staffie hybrid.
They also want to buy a piece of land in the countryside and build their dream home – complete with a man cave for Ian.
They will also help their five children acquire properties as they all – and ten grandchildren – currently live in a rented house.
Ian immediately sent his notice at the Pirelli Tires factory in Carlisle and he and Sandra, a retired caretaker, are now looking forward to living the retirement dream.
He added: “I don’t think I’ve even seen that many zeros. I keep asking the question: ‘Is this really £2millon?’
“I immediately phoned the agency and told them I wasn’t going to be available that day and really, I don’t think I’ll be this week, or really ever.
“Understandably, my boss was really shocked and said, ‘Why, what the hell happened?’
“That feeling when I could say, ‘I won the National Lottery’ is a moment I will never forget.
“I never believed I would say this. You always dream about it but it doesn’t happen to people like Sandra and me – now we have proved it. ”
Carlisle United football supporters and keen rugby fans can’t wait to see England at Twickenham and a new Volvo for Sandra and a 75-inch television will also be among the deals. their first purchase.
Ian, who bought the winning card at Spar Euro Garage, in Carlisle, said: “It’s all just overwhelming and I really think the news is still sinking in.
“Sandra and I now can’t wait to really live the dream and make the most of our retirement. This is a magical moment in our lives.”
