‘I know he wants to leave’: Arsenal urge to keep defender still looking for a way out

Charles Watts says it’s ‘worth it’ to keep Cedric Soares at Arsenal after Jurrien Timber’s injury, even if he ‘wants to leave’

The 32-year-old is yet to feature in a single matchday for Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal squad this season, with his last appearance coming at Wolves in 2022.

Since then, Cedric Soares has been loaned out to Fulham and has been unable to find a new club after his return to the Emirates this summer.

While the England transfer window has closed, other windows are still open, including the Saudi Arabian market, Watts says In the arsenal that there is “still an opportunity” that Cedric is leaving.

Despite Timber’s injury, picked up on the opening day of the new Premier League season, Cedric has still not been included in Arteta’s matchday squad.

But Arsenal pundit Watts is looking at the bigger picture and how the Portugal international could be needed from now until January, which is why he wants the player to stay there.

Should Arsenal keep Cedric?

“Is it almost worth keeping Cedric now for the first half of the season?” Watts asked. “Just to have that option if you don’t want to send it on.

“I know he won’t play very often, but I’m looking at this now and I think it’s probably smart. I know Cedric wants to go. He’s considered moving, but nothing has come of it yet. There is still a chance that this will happen.

“But I wonder if it’s even worth keeping him now just for the first half of the season.”

If Cedric can walk, then he should

At the end of the day he has to watch his own game and not being able to sit around at the age of 32 and wait for the sun to go down.

So given the chance of making regular appearances elsewhere, even in Saudi Arabia, he should open that door and leave.

Also, Arsenal are getting a player who, let’s face it, won’t be playing, taken off their payroll and even if Arteta has to turn to Cedric, things must have seriously taken a turn for the worse.
