‘I have to do my best’: £15m player is now ready to fight for a place in Tottenham squad

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is not giving up on trying to regain his place in the north London club’s team.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has not played a Premier League game under Ange Postecoglou and has been heavily linked with a move from Tottenham during the summer window.
However, the 28-year-old has told Clearly and the rest of the Danish media that he will try to show why he deserves to be in Spurs’ starting XI.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg does not give up
Speaking on his current situation at Tottenham, Hojbjerg said: “In the end, the most important thing is, and I made that very clear to the manager and to the club, that I have to be at my best and deserve what I get from playing time .
“At the moment I’m not in the starting XI. It is what it is. I try to be at my best when the coach is pointing at me.”
According to the Daily mailHojbjerg turned down the chance to join Fulham late in the last transfer window.
He joined Spurs from Southampton three years ago a deal worth £15million and was a regular with them last season, missing just three Premier League games.
The Dane will now have to settle for a bench role, however, with Postecoglou currently playing in midfield with Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s attitude is not surprising
It’s hardly a surprise that Hojbjerg doesn’t sulk and just keep going. He always had the right mentality.

The Denmark international was once captain of Southampton so is clearly a good example, while his former coach Jose Mourinho has praised his leadership skills in the past.
“He’s a captain without having to wear an armband,” the AS Roma coach was quoted as saying by the athlete back in 2020.
Ultimately, that alone is the reason Hojbjerg can still be a useful asset to Tottenham. Although Postecoglou still has the midfielder, he might as well use him.
And in the 58-year-old’s defense he indeed was, with Hojbjerg playing in three of Spurs’ four Premier League games this season. None of those appearances were starting XI appearances, however, and you suspect Hojbjerg will want more than just appearances from the bench going forward.
