Serena Williams has been at the top of the tennis world for years. However, she doesn’t place much value on her legacy and tries to focus on life outside of sport. An important aspect of her life is her family. Fans are enjoying seeing Williams and her daughter together, and the athlete has said she loves being a mom. But like other parents, the tennis legend admits he faces challenges.
Serena Williams and her husband Alexis Ohanian have a loving relationship
Williams and Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian’s relationship began in 2015 when they met in Rome. According to Brides, they were both staying at the Cavalieri Hotel and they met over breakfast. At first she wanted him to go, but changed her mind before inviting him to her table. The two hit it off quickly.
Though Ohanian knew little about tennis, he and Williams discovered they loved art and travel. Not only do they have common interests, but they are also in sync. Williams’ and Ohanians’ compatible zodiac signs could be the reason they connect deeply.
In 2016, Ohanian Williams proposed at the hotel where they met and they married a year later. The couple booked a location in New Orleans for the ceremony. Williams wore a stunning princess dress for the wedding, and several celebrities attended.
Williams and Ohanian have one child together. During the couple’s engagement, Williams discovered she was pregnant. In early September 2017, she gave birth to a daughter, Alexis Olympia Ohanian. Although Olympia is only 4 years old, she already has a popular Instagram account due to her famous parents.
Serena Williams loves her daughter but doesn’t always feel like a ‘good mother’
The birth of her daughter wasn’t easy for Williams, forcing her to postpone her return to tennis training. Williams required an unscheduled cesarean due to the baby’s significantly low heart rate, Vogue reported. After giving birth, Williams suffered a life-threatening pulmonary embolism.
Despite the traumatic start, Williams shares loving moments with Olympia. She has found that her child is very similar to her. The tennis star turns to her mother for advice and fans believe Williams will raise her daughter to be just as wild.
Many parents can understand the challenges of raising children and feel insecure about their abilities. In a 2018 Instagram post, Williams confessed that she had doubts about being a decent parent to her child.
“Last week wasn’t easy for me,” Williams wrote. “Not only did I have to accept some hard personal things, but I was just freaking out. Most of the time I felt like I wasn’t a good mother.”
She attributed her challenges primarily to “postpartum emotions,” and sent an encouraging message to other parents:
“It’s perfectly normal to feel like I’m not doing enough for my baby. We’ve all been there. I work a lot, I train and I try to be the best athlete I can be. However, that means that while I’ve been with her every day of her life, I’m not there as often as I’d like to be. Most of you moms feel the same way. Whether you stay at home or work, finding balance with children is an art. You are the real heroes.
“I’m here to say if you’re having a rough day or week – it’s okay – me too!!!”
Ohanian is there to support his wife
Ohanian is also on social media where he has hundreds of thousands of followers. He posts various videos and pictures, some of his family. Last Mother’s Day, the proud husband and father shared a photo of Williams and Olympia on Instagram.
His reflection can be seen in a mirror as he takes the picture of his wife and daughter seated at a table in a quaint restaurant. He captioned the photo, “Greatest Mom Ever.”
Ohanian loves to show how wonderful a mother Williams is, and he encourages her in other aspects of her life as well. Before he met his wife, he wasn’t a big tennis fan. Now he is cheering next to Olympia in the crowd about Williams’ victory.
