Will Smith’s viral slap in the face wasn’t the only controversy to arise during the Oscars: Comedian Amy Schumer recently refuted claims that she stole a joke about Leonardo DiCaprio during her speech at the 2022 Academy Awards.

The 40-year-old Trainwreck star explained her case during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live! with Andy Cohen.

“I’m funny enough, I don’t have to steal anything,” Schumer existed in the segment.

She was referring to her Oscar spot, in which the comedian mocked 47-year-old DiCaprio’s penchant for dating younger women. “He’s done so much to fight climate change and leave his friends a cleaner, greener planet,” she joked.

Then, during the call-in segment of “WWHL,” a fan asked if she lifted the one-liner from a almost identical post on Twitter from December 2021. The comic, who has been accused of joke stealing in the past, quickly dismissed the allegations.

“Well, I want to say that I haven’t been on Twitter personally. I had my assistant do it just so I could stay alive and not kill myself,” the host of Inside Amy Schumer replied on the air. “And besides, this joke was written by Suli McCullough.”

She added, “But I always thank you guys for making sure I don’t start stealing.”

The funny girl even claimed that she passed one Lie detector test for Vanity FairShe insisted that “thank God they asked me, ‘Have you ever stolen a joke?’ and I said no, and it was ‘that’s true’.”

“Everybody just chill,” summarized Schumer, who became infamous for plagiarizing jokes in 2016 from female comics Wendy Liebman, Tammy Pescatelli, and Kathleen Madigan.

The self-proclaimed feminist has since denied the allegations SiriusXM’s The Jim Norton Advice Show. Since then, all three accusers have since softened their criticisms of Schumer: Liebman and Madigan deleted some of their tweets, and Pescatelli said on the Norton show that some of their criticisms “went too far, and I sincerely apologize for that.” ”
