How transactivism became the new religion of the left

The debate over transgender issues — and medical interventions for transgender children in particular — continues to rage as one of the greatest battles in our nation’s current culture wars.
Now Pres. Biden has — along with trans activists — discovered an unlikely tool that has the potential to completely reverse this debate: religion.
Indeed, the trans movement has been vociferously emerging as a new religion for the left – with Biden longing to be its priest and pastor.
Along the way, both the president and activists paint their opponents — including Florida and its governor Ron DeSantis — as enemies of the faith.
In conversation with innkeeper from The daily News, Kal Penn, earlier this week Biden criticized Florida legislation — which bans puberty blockers, hormone treatments and so-called gender-affirming surgery for children — as “sinful.”

“What’s going on in Florida is, as my mother would say, ‘almost sinful.’ It’s just terrible what they’re doing,” Biden said, before calling the legislation “cruel.”
Biden has every right to call Florida’s legislation “awful” or “cruel.” These are political arguments, whether people agree with them or not. But by using the word “sinful,” the President intentionally shifted from the political to the religious.
Despite being denied communion in recent years because of his pro-abortion stance, Biden presents himself as a devout Catholic. And the word “sinful” clearly has a religious connotation to him.

Which means that according to Biden, Florida’s policy is not only wrong, it’s a sin — an immoral act in the eyes of God. Or at least a god.
Of course, this isn’t the first time left-wing politicians have arrogantly – if not abused – used religion to advance their own agenda.
For example, as a presidential candidate and now a Biden cabinet member a few years ago, Pete Buttigieg invoked the Book of Proverbs during the campaign when he called out “so-called conservative Christian senators” who oppose a minimum wage increase “Scripture says that everyone, who oppresses the poor, mocks their Maker.”

This is also the same Pete Buttigieg who argued in 2019 that the Bible could be used to support late abortion because “there are so many parts of the Bible that associate the beginning of life with breathing.”
While the religious nature of the left has reared its ugly head on other occasions — like the veneration of Anthony Fauci as a pseudo-saint, complete with his own line of candles — the transgender debate has kicked that passion into high gear.
So much so that earlier this week Drew Barrymore fell to his knees in an act of apparent reverence for Biden favorite Dylan Mulvaney, the prominent transgender TikTok personality known for documenting her transition to “being a girl.”

So much so that First Lady Jill Biden and Secretary of State Anthony Blinken presented Alba Rueda, a biological male, with an International Women of Courage Award on March 9 at the White House.
So much so that hundreds of contributors joined in chorus to condemn The New York Times—hardly a port of call for the average conservative —for his under-bright language on the subject of transgenderism.
So much so that the all-women Wellesley College — Hillary Clinton’s alma mater — is no longer content to “accept anyone who lives and consistently identifies as a woman.” Students on Wednesday voted to also allow biological women who now identify as men, proving that even Wellesley seems willing to sacrifice the soul of his existence on the altar of the transgender movement.

There are two reasons why the increasingly anti-religious left has embraced the transgender debate with such religious intensity.
First, it is human nature to yearn for the presence of a higher power—whether it be for guidance or meaning, or both. With the erosion of traditional religion – particularly the Western world’s Judeo-Christian roots – the left has swooped in to fill the void.
Second, and more importantly, religion is the swindle of the left.

Back to Florida’s ban on puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones and surgeries on children. If these interventions are really up for debate, the left knows they will lose.
Because Florida’s view is the majority position, with 56% of Americans supporting a ban on underage transgender surgery or anti-puberty blockers, according to a poll by the American Principles Project Foundation.
But by infusing the issue with religious language, Biden hopes to sidestep the need for debate altogether. Through the framework of belief, leftism – and transgenderism in particular – becomes a measure of morality. Whoever agrees is without sin. Anyone who disagrees is sinful.

To make matters worse, the inherent fear of being labeled “sinful” or “immoral” wields significant social power, as evidenced by the Wellesley student who was too afraid to speak out against the admissions vote. Ultimately, the end goal of this false belief is that the debate itself is a sign of disloyalty.
Throughout history, religion has been manipulated to gain control. And the aim of this control is equality unbelief with unbelief– an incredulous attitude that must ultimately be punished.
Remember, Biden doesn’t just say his opponents are wrong. He says they are godless.
That only makes sense if transgenderism is their religion.
