How to temporarily deactivate your Instagram account

If you’re looking to take a break from Instagram but aren’t quite ready to completely delete your account, you can try temporarily disabling it. Here’s how to do it.

Instagram is one of the biggest social media platforms right now, and has been for years. Millions of users use the platform every day to share pictures and videos from their lives with friends, followers and more.

Though TikTok was indeed the most downloaded app for the first three months of 2022, Instagram was just behind in second place, and it looks set to remain popular for a while.

However, some eventually decide to stop using Instagram. Sometimes that’s because they want to wipe the slate clean and open a new account, and sometimes it’s because they want to take a break from the platform as a whole.

While you always have the option to completely delete your account, you can also temporarily disable it, which is a good idea if you think you might change your mind later.

Instagram remains one of the most popular social media platforms.

How to temporarily deactivate your Instagram account

To temporarily deactivate your account, you must complete this process through the website on a computer or mobile browser.

According to Instagram, if you deactivate your account, “your profile, photos, comments, and likes will be hidden until you reactivate them by logging in again.”

How to deactivate your account:

1. login in Instagram.com (You cannot deactivate your account through the app.)
2. Click yours profile pic top right before you select ‘Profile.’
3. Click next to your username ‘Edit profile.’
4. Scroll down the page and click in the lower right corner ‘Temporarily deactivate my account.’
5. Next to “Why are you deactivating your account?” Choose an option from the menu.
6. Reenter Your password.
7. Finally click ‘Temporarily disable account.’

To reactivate your account, you must log in again.
