Experts at Martha Stewart explain.

Therefore, you should first test the water for any harsh minerals.

Cloudy glass can develop over time, they explain, but it is more common in both hard water (mineral deposits build up and adhere to glassware and dishes) and soft water (caused by corrosion) ,” they explained.

“In some cases, your dishwasher may have permanently scratched the glass surface.”

For that reason, the best way to clean them is to wash them by hand.

It is important to hand wash with a good detergent, rinse thoroughly, and dry immediately.

Now if your glasses have gotten worse due to the type of water they come into contact with, here’s what you do.

The experts begin: “Soak a washcloth or small dishcloth in a small amount of white vinegar.”

“And get the glass cleaner.

Clean hacks and tips

Here are some tips to help you with your next house cleaning:

“If the glass is no longer cloudy, then the cloudiness is caused by accumulation of hard water.

“If you wipe the glass with vinegar and it’s still cloudy, it’s corrosion caused by soft water and it can’t be fixed.”

But to remove the damage left by hard water, use a little nail polish remover.

You will need to use acetone to pick up the glass and wash it carefully with dish soap.

Then let the glass soak in white distilled vinegar for about 15 minutes.

And for those with soft water who still want to use the dishwasher to clean glassware, just make sure the cup you buy is dishwasher-safe.

Because then you can simply run the dishwasher and open the door right after the cycle is over to let the steam fly away, leaving time for your glass to cool.

And while you can count on drinking from your own glasses, a former hotel employee shared why you shouldn’t drink from cups left in hotel rooms.

“I wouldn’t recommend drinking from those glasses,” she says.

“They are generally not changed between guests, as long as they ‘look’ clean.”

Obviously, if they are already in use, the hotel will change them.

But it doesn’t mean they should be trusted.

She added: “If they look like they haven’t been touched or aren’t drunk, they’ll leave it for the next guest.”
