Mac Jones had his first preseason appearance of the season and the results were mostly positive Saturday night.

He got some help from defense after Josh Uche caught a bad snap that flew past Green Bay’s Jordan Love. Jones then led a 5-play touchdown drive for 18 yards, which was crowned by a 1-yard touchdown run Rhamondre Stevenson.

Jones didn’t have enough support from his offensive line. He was twice sacked by Kingsley Engabare. Engabare forced a Jones fumble for a turnover on the second sack.

Kendrick Bourne was Jones’s best target, catching three of the four balls thrown to him, including a two-handed catch from 17 yards.

Overall, Jones produced a 6-for-9 passing game on his preseason debut, which was pretty solid considering how poorly the offense played.

Jones showed confidence by going in the pocket when under pressure. He had a nice throw in an RPO game against Bourne. And he took advantage of Demario Douglas when the fast newcomer was on the field.

It wasn’t the smoothest quarter Jones has ever played, but that was to be expected in preseason. The offense is showing some vital signs with Jones down the middle, but New England needs to protect him better.
