This week, 41-year-old Mikki Lynn Fox, known on YouTube as lifestyle and dating consultant Michaela Pink and more recently Summer Black, pleaded guilty to theft for defrauding eight investors out of $136,624.

Between March 2015 and July 2020, Fox lured people from Texas, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and California into various types of fraudulent real estate investments. Parents of children who played baseball with their children were among the victims of scams in the Houston area. Others reached out to her after watching dating advice videos, as she also posed as an expert on how to land the perfect man.

“This defendant used her online platform to gain the trust of unsuspecting victims and steal tens of thousands of dollars of their hard-earned money,” said Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg. “Thieves are cunning and clever at finding new ways to commit their crimes, and we will use any means at our disposal to stop them.”

According to the district attorney’s office, Fox asked people to invest $35,000 to help her buy a home to turn around, claiming it would sell quickly. She also promised to return her main investment and a share of the profits. Meanwhile, Fox paid interest in small amounts to keep victims from suspecting anything.

Over time, as investors asked for their money, Fox made up excuses as to why the property wasn’t on the market and stopped answering their calls.

“She was very charming. People searched her online and said, ‘Oh, she’s someone.’ No, she just created that person,” said Sheila Hansel, the assistant district attorney in the DA’s Consumer Fraud Division prosecuting the case.
