Houston Traffic: The Texas Department of Transportation plans to open the newly constructed NB lanes of the I-610 West Loop Bridge Monday

HOUSTON, TX (KTRK) — The I-610 West Loop/I-69 interchange construction project will reach another milestone early Monday morning.

The Texas Department of Transportation plans to open the newly built northbound main lanes of the West Loop Bridge over the Southwest Freeway.

A significant closure is required to prepare for the opening of the main lanes at this location over the weekend of August 12-14. All major northbound lanes of I-610 West Loop will be closed, including the Westheimer exit.

The closure will allow for the final work required to open the West Loop’s new lanes over the Southwest Freeway.

When the corridor reopens at 5 a.m. Monday, drivers will take the new northbound West Loop bridge over US-59. There will still be three main lanes, but now shoulders for improved driver safety and greater visibility so drivers can better see traffic ahead as they drive across the bridge.

TxDOT recognizes the possibility that one of the new main lanes may need to remain closed for several days after the opening date to complete the work. However, the plan is to open all three lanes on Monday morning.

ABC13 will update you on the status of lane closures as we approach Monday morning’s commute.

The exchange project should be fully completed in 2024.
