Houston Traffic: Northbound I-45 Gulf Freeway closed ahead of FM-518 in League City, Galveston County

LEAGUE CITY, Texas (KTRK) — Dear Galveston County drivers, if your Friday afternoon plans get you into Harris County on I-45, you’re going to face some delays.

A serious truck accident and the resulting hazmat cleanup has blocked several northbound lanes of the Gulf Freeway just before FM-518 in the League City, Texas Department of Transportation.

Houston TranStar confirmed the incident at 1:40 p.m. and further stated that three vehicles were involved in the incident, including the heavy truck. The right and middle lanes as well as the right hard shoulder are affected.

It is not immediately known how long the traffic obstruction will last.

It is also not known if the incident is related to road works in the area.

People familiar with the Gulf Freeway in the League City area are aware of ongoing projects that tend to slow them down on their way out of Galveston County. TxDOT widens main tracks between NASA Parkway and FM-518. In addition, the broadening between FM-518 and FM-517 is still ongoing.

Fortunately, TxDOT says these projects are expected to be completed later this year.
