Houston Traffic: Memorial Drive between East Memorial and West Memorial Loop Drive closed to vehicles and pedestrians June 24-26

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) – Are you planning to go to Memorial Park this weekend? You might want to check your maps for a detour.

The Memorial Park Conservancy announced that Memorial Drive will be closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic from 10 a.m. Friday, June 24 to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 26.

The video shown above is from an earlier report when the Land Bridge Tunnel at Memorial Park opened to drivers in Houston.

The closure will be in both directions between East Memorial Loop Drive and West Memorial Loop Drive.

Detours will be routed through traffic around Memorial Park, and signage will be installed to alert drivers to alternative routes, park officials said.

Houston Police Department officers will also direct traffic to detour routes at the Westcott Street and 610/West Loop South intersections and at the 610/West Loop South Woodway Drive intersection.

Within Memorial Park, the Picnic Loop, Green Trail, and Seymour Lieberman Trail hiking trails between East Memorial Loop Drive and West Memorial Loop Drive will be closed.

All other parking areas remain open throughout the weekend.

Vehicle traffic in Memorial Park is restricted to park users who have access to the East Memorial Loop, West Memorial Loop, Arnot and the Washington/Westcott entrance.

The road closure allows for the installation of support beams for three new Ravine Bridges that will connect a new section of the Seymour Lieberman Trail.

This section will take the trail away from Memorial Drive and take park visitors through some of the most scenic and shady sections of the three-mile trail via a series of bridges.
