Houston teacher charged after dragging 5-year-old girl across floor

An elementary school teacher in Houston, Texas, has been charged with injuring a child after allegedly dragging a 5-year-old girl across the floor without the student discarding a fork.

Jenny Alicia Dominguez, 44, of the Houston Independent School District (HISD), was seen on surveillance video grabbing 5-year-old Fany Castro and pulling her hair, according to local outlet ABC13.

The incident at Katherine Smith Elementary School was allegedly sparked when Castro refused to throw a fork in the trash, according to a witness who spoke to police, court documents said.

The witness described Dominguez’s behavior as “irrational” and “out of control,” and also claimed the bilingual teacher told the young girl, “No seas chiflada,” which translates to “Don’t be a brat.”

Investigators claimed surveillance footage showed Dominguez grabbing the girl’s arm and hair, throwing her off balance before being dragged to the trash can.

“It kind of made me angry at the teachers and school district for being a safe place for the kids to study, play, and not worry about someone abusing them,” Castro’s mother, Patricia Saldana, said. the local point of sale.

Castro's mother claims her daughter was called fat by her teacher.

Fany Castro reportedly doesn’t feel safe returning to Katherine Smith Elementary.

The witness described the incident as "irrational."

A witness said the incident was caused by Castro refusing to throw out a fork.

Saldana said the girl suffered a minor laceration and a swollen arm after the incident, but her daughter also suffered emotional wounds.

“She doesn’t feel safe. She’s trying to quit school. She just doesn’t seem like what she used to be,” she said. “She looked forward to going to school every day.”

Saldana also claimed the teacher bullied her in other ways.

“My daughter stopped eating because she said her teacher called her fat, she didn’t need to eat,” the mother claimed.

“HISD takes these situations very seriously, and the safety and well-being of our students is always our top priority,” a HISD spokesman said in a statement. “ISD PD was informed of an allegation of misconduct and the educator was immediately reassigned pending the outcome of the investigation. Due to the Family Education Rights Privacy Act and the ongoing investigation, HISD will not provide any additional information.”

Dominguez was charged with a felony count of injuring a child but had not been arrested or taken into custody as of Friday, according to the local outlet.
