Houston Methodist Hospital says omicron variation is responsible for 45% of local cases

With the holidays approaching and more and more people getting tested for COVID-19 before family gatherings, Houston Methodist Hospital said it has seen an increase in cases.

On Friday, the hospital revealed that the omicron variant was responsible for 45% of cases as of December 12.

“The explosive growth of Omicron in Houston continues unabated,” said a hospital spokesperson.

According to Houston Methodist, this variant doubles every two to three days in COVID patients, and only half of the patients who became ill with omicrons have been immunized with two or three doses.

“A booster dose of vaccine is your best protection against severe COVID-19 disease,” according to a statement.
