Houston Crimes: 1 arrested after hours of SWAT scene outside River Oaks home, police said

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — An individual has been arrested following an hours-long SWAT scene outside a home in the River Oaks area.

Around 10 a.m. Thursday, a SWAT team and officers attempted to execute a search warrant at a home in the 3800 block of Del Monte, police said in a tweet.

In an update, police said the person inside the house was arrested just before 3pm

Police said no further information will be released due to the ongoing investigation.

Neighbors in the area said they could hear police officers and relatives trying to get this person to come outside and cooperate. Law enforcement, including a narcotics unit, spent hours entering and exiting the home after they were granted access.

A neighbor described the scene and said it looked and felt like the military had taken over their neighborhood. Kent Schaffer said: My wife came outside not knowing anything was going on, but she could hear over a loudspeaker someone telling her to come outside and keep her hands where we can see them. So she looks around to see who that is. She couldn’t see it, but they gave directions to a person in the house. So she went around the corner here on Willowick to see what the problem was. There were several police cars. The street was cordoned off and they kept people off Del Monte.

Neighbors said the homeowner was a well-known doctor, but ABC 13 has not confirmed the arrestee’s identity or charges.
