Houston crime: Woman accused of drunk driving while chasing police with child in car

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A woman was arrested and faces serious charges after police said she led officers in a chase with a small child in her car.

It all started around 11:00 p.m. Thursday when an off-duty HPD motorcycle officer saw a speeding vehicle coming up behind him on the I-10 Katy Freeway near Taylor.

The officer thought the car was going to hit him, so he turned left and was almost hit anyway.

HPD Lt. Ignacio Izaguirre told ABC13 the driver was driving at at least 80 to 90mph and almost hit other vehicles.

According to Izaguirre, the officer tried to stop the woman, but she kept walking. She got off the freeway and stopped at Blodgett and Fannin because the METRORail was passing and she had nowhere to go.

ABC13’s cameras captured tense moments at the end of the chase, where officers could be heard shouting orders at the woman as they aimed their guns.

The woman, also suspected of drinking, was arrested for dodging a motor vehicle and DUI with a child.

Authorities discovered that a 4-year-old child was sleeping in the back of their car during the chase. Officials checked the child, who is fine.

The police did not know if the woman is the mother of the child.
