Houston Crime: Driver shot dead in attempted robbery of Gulf Freeway feeder, police say

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) – Police are searching for the suspects who shot dead a man in his 70s in an attempted robbery on the Gulf Freeway Friday night.

According to police, the man was traveling with his wife on the slip road to the Gulf Freeway around 10 p.m.

As the man turned onto Broad Street, police said two young men rode up on bicycles alongside their minivan and pointed a gun.

The man was then shot in the hand.

“We’re trying to figure out exactly if he was trying to rob him for the car or what, but he started shooting into the vehicle. They took off with the van. They actually took one of the bikes from under the van, which is still stuck under the car,” Lt. R. Wilkens said.

The two suspects escaped.

The man is expected to be well and his wife was not injured, police said.
