House of Dragon premiere, plot, cast and everything you need to know about the Game of Thrones prequel series
game of Thrones was one of the biggest TV shows of all time. The series, which ran on HBO from 2011 to 2019, changed the way many viewers enjoyed television by introducing unforgettable characters and breathtaking locations.
During game of Thrones went off the air in 2019 amid a spate of controversy, showrunners announced spinoff shows were coming soon. HBO recently made good on that promise with an exciting announcement about the premiere date for the all-new game of Thrones prequel series, house of the dragon.
When is the premiere date of House of the Dragon?
house of the dragon was first rumored in 2019 when HBO showrunners revealed they were in pre-production for a game of Thrones prequel series. house of the dragon based on the 2018 novel by George RR Martin Fire & Bloodand will focus on events approximately three hundred years before those described in game of Thrones.
Thankfully, fans won’t have to wait too long to enjoy the new fantasy series. HBO recently announced this house of the dragon will premiere on HBO Max on August 21, 2022 TV programthe show will feature the “crazy kings” that are often referenced game of Thrones. The first season of house of the dragon will consist of 10 episodes, with a new episode airing weekly.
Who will star in The House of the Dragon?

Similar to game of Thrones, house of the dragon should have a star cast. Paddy Considine will play King Viserys I Targaryen, fifth king of the Seven Kingdoms and ancestor of Game of Thrones’ Daenerys Targaryen. Matt Smith will portray Prince Daemon Targaryen, heir apparent to the Iron Throne, while Emma D’Arcy will play Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen.
The cast is rounded out by Olivia Cooke, Eve Best, Steve Toussaint, and Rhys Ifans. Since house of the dragon will take place hundreds of years ago game of Thrones, it’s unlikely that any recognizable characters will make cameo appearances in the series — but it’s entirely possible that showrunners will in some way cleverly reference characters or situations from the hit HBO show. What fans can expect house of the dragon are more like the fantasy creatures that viewers loved game of Thrones – dragons.
Will Game of Thrones like House of the Dragon?
As revealed by George RR Martin in a Interview end of 2021which he is particularly looking forward to house of the dragon mostly because the show will feature even more dragons. “I always thought that was a cool story, I like it, so I’m looking forward to bringing it to life on screen,” remarked Martin. “And of course I’m looking forward to the dragons! Obviously I love the dragons. We had three of them in there game of Thronesbut now we have about 17 of them.”
Showrunners haven’t confirmed how many dragons will be there house of the dragon, or if the creatures will show up at all in the show’s first season. That teaser trailer didn’t have dragons in it, so it’s very likely the show persevered to generate interest.
Still, Martin claims the new series will be eye candy for all who loved it game of Thrones, noting that there’s a lot of “pretty cool” stuff on the upcoming show that fans will really enjoy. Spectators can catch house of the dragon when it debuts on HBO Max in August 2022.
