House Dem Henry Cuellar rips Biden up for not visiting the border

A House Democrat from the border state blasted President Biden on Wednesday for not showing the southern border’s immigration crisis urgently enough — and claiming the situation was spiraling out of control.

Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX) said CNN’s Kaitlan Collins said his state’s communities will soon be “overwhelmed” by migrants crossing the Rio Grande from Mexico to Texas and that the 80-year-old president must “show up” at the border to call a demonstration in support of those affected communities and the beleaguered members of law enforcement agencies.

“I don’t know why they avoid the border and say there are other things, more important things than visiting the border. If there is a crisis, come. Just drop by,” Cuellar said angrily.

“Just showing up at the border would send a strong signal to the communities that he is there, he cares about the border communities. Just show up! It doesn’t take much to just show up at the border,” Cuellar pleaded.

Asked by Collins if he thinks the Biden administration is looking at the crisis with any “urgency,” Cuellar replied that he doesn’t think so.

“I don’t think they do, or if they do, they just have a very different perspective,” the congressman said. “It’s okay to listen to immigration activists. It’s okay to do that. But who is listening to the men and women in green and blue, and who is listening to our frontier communities?”

Cuellar added that with Title 42, the policy that allows authorities to quickly deport migrants without allowing them to seek asylum, ending next week, the situation for communities near the border will only get worse.

“The communities will be overwhelmed,” Cuellar said. “We’ve seen that in the past with Rio Grande Valley and Del Rio. You will be overwhelmed.”

Last week, Biden missed visiting the border during a trip to Arizona to speak at a computer chip factory. When asked by a reporter why the trip would not include a stop at the border, the President replied, “Because there are more important things.”

Since Biden took office, the border has seen historic numbers of migrants — including more than 2.4 million in the last fiscal year. House Dem Henry Cuellar rips Biden up for not visiting the border
