Horrified father saves 10-year-old son’s life after he begins to CHOOSE on a Lucozade bottle cap

A HORRIFIED father jumped into action to save his son’s life after he started choking on a rubber stopper from a Lucozade bottle.

Jay Miller, 38, and son Harvey, 10, were getting ready for soccer practice at their home in Colchester, Essex, when the boy’s eyes suddenly widened.

Harvey started gasping for air, prompting the quick-witted father to try different techniques to pop the cap off his son’s throat.

Jay, an area support manager for maintenance services, told The Sun Online that he slapped his son when he moved him to different positions to keep his airway open.

He said: “I was so scared and felt numb all over and I couldn’t figure out what was going on even though my head was full of things but I was focused on helping my son, outsiders fear themselves.

“The color on his face disappeared. It could have been a lot worse.

“I stood beside him and smacked him in the back between the shoulder blades in an upward motion.”

Jay said in a panic, he hit his son very hard on the back, it left a red mark.

The doting father quickly discovers his son is about to drink from a bottle of Lucozade.

But before the liquid could reach Harvey’s tongue, a small piece of flap instead rolled in his mouth and down his esophagus.

He said the family used to drink Lucozade’s before Harvey’s sister went to soccer practice, but they both stopped using the bottles in the same way.

Jay set aside the small piece of plastic behind the choking chaos and contacted Suntory, the producer of Lucozade, to complain.

But after several comebacks and a fourth time with the company, he has become quite popular and has the impression that the company is trying to shift responsibility back to him.

In emails seen by The Sun Online, a customer service representative said the company would investigate the complaints after asking him to send the bottle back.

He followed their quality assurance policy to ensure the bottle was reviewed and included the bottle in a packing slip sent by Suntory but declined some of the offers offered for replacement drinks.

Just days later, in an email, Santory said that after their investigation, they were unable to determine the exact cause of this complaint.

A consumer care manager wrote: “It is our view that such physical damage can occur to the valve after purchase, for example through threading a straw through the cap, resulting in the inner soft fins of the valve separating.”

The second time around, though, Jay was given another voucher – but this time not just another round of drinks.

The email read: “We deeply regret the distress your son has gone through and hope that we can offer some reassurance.

“As a gesture of goodwill to bring this matter to our attention and allow us to investigate further, we would like to provide you with a £75 retailer gift card.”

‘I WAS ANGRY’

Jay told the company he wasn’t happy with the coupon and turned down the offer.

He said: “I turned it down and wrote an email explaining how we felt about the offer.

“I can honestly say that after the feedback I’ve received from them, it’s nice to know that they’ll look into this but at first I was furious and just wanted everyone to understand that this is a worthwhile moment. afraid to happen to you and your family.”

“I asked for the bottle to be returned so I could try my own tests and they agreed and sent it back to me.

“But when I opened the parcel, I could clearly see that this was never opened or any inspection done on it because if they did then the clear tape that I put on the inside of the lid. bottles will be discarded.”

Jay contacted the company and they said they would investigate further.

He said: “Looks like someone is taking it seriously and will help me figure out how this happened… but I wish I had made it feel like this right from the start. head.”

‘ITCH IS ANNOUNCED’

A spokesman for Suntory UK said complaints of this nature were taken “extremely seriously”.

They said: “We understand and appreciate how distressed this incident has been to Mr Miller and his family.

“Following initial contact from Mr. Miller, we conducted a thorough analysis of the complaint, including inspecting the bottle and reviewing the manufacturing process alongside our supplier.

“Following this thorough investigation, we have informed Mr. Miller that we were unable to find any circumstances during production and distribution that could have led to this isolated incident.

“We appreciate this finding may not be satisfactory to hear.

“Following further discussion with Mr. Miller, we offered to review the initial investigation to reassure him and he subsequently welcomed it.

“We continue to give this matter the utmost care and we are also in regular contact with Mr. Miller to keep him informed of the progress of the review.”

Jay urges other parents to be really careful with what you’re giving to kids.

“The easy thing to do is just screw the top off,” he said.
