Home Alone fans have a wild theory about Kevin McCallister

It’s the season for home alone marathons, memes and jokes. The film has been an all-time Christmas classic since it hit theaters in 1990 – and its delightful protagonist, Kevin McCallister, remains a staple of the holiday season.
And every year since 2014, the film has encouraged a darker holiday tradition: a much-debated fan theory that McCallister became a serial killer.
Or more specifically, the theory thrown into the airwaves by the now-defunct Grantland was that Macaulay Culkin’s character grew into Jigsaw, aka John Kramer, the creepy hitman from the “Saw” movies.
There are a few reasons why they said the angelic but mischievous McCallister became a sadistic killer. First, his elaborate but clumsy traps he set for the “Wet Bandits” performed by Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern.
Fans also point to her physical resemblance with blue eyes and blonde hair, and her penchant for torturing her victims.

They find that McCallister communicates with humans through an electronic device, while Jigsaw talks to his captured victims through a screen.
And in Saw II, Jigsaw plans to burn someone alive, and some say the idea arose out of McCallister’s fear of his basement furnace.
The wide-eyed ’90s icon is also developing a fascination with and fear of his distant neighbor Marley, who was rumored to be a serial killer nicknamed the “South Bend Shovel Slayer.”

One fan took his theory to Reddit, writing, “It makes perfect sense to me. Kevin = Jigsaw both make complicated traps both are murderous both have anger issues Saw’s bear trap looks like the furnace in Kevin’s basement.
“Jigsaw has a room that looks like Kevin’s basement.

James Wan, co-creator of “Saw,” told the Huffington Post McCallister wasn’t an inspiration but called the theories “great.”
“I should have known all along that Macaulay Culkin would grow up to be John Kramer. I think it’s great,” he said. “I’m very flattered that people are taking the time to poke fun at all of these fan theories. I think that’s why I make these films. I want the fans out there to have fun with them.”
