Holiday shipping deadline 2021: Last day to send Christmas cards, gifts via USPS, UPS and FedEx

NEW YORK – This is the last week to receive holiday gifts and mail wishes by recommended deadlines, and the US Postal Service is expecting its busiest week of the holiday mailing and mailing season.

The Postal Service has been preparing for the peak season since spring, including transitioning 63,000 pre-career employees into career positions and bringing on more than 185,000 employees since the start of last fiscal.

USPS has also leased an additional 13 million square feet of space at more than 100 locations, and Sunday deliveries have been expanded to select high-volume locations.

Shipping deadline on holidays in 2021

The Postal Service recommends the following mailing and mailing deadlines for deliveries expected before December 25:

December 15 – USPS Retail Ground Services
December 16 – APO / FPO / DPO (except ZIP code 093) USPS Priority Mail Express Military Service
December 17 – First Class Mail Service (including greeting cards)
December 17 – First Class Package (up to 15.99 ounces)
December 18 – Priority Mail Service
December 23 – Priority Mail Courier Service *

Alaska to/from Mainland US
December 18 – First Class Mail
December 18 – Priority mail
December 21 – Priority Mail Express Delivery

Hawaii to/from the mainland
December 17 – Priority Mail and First Class Mail
December 21 – Priority Mail Express Delivery

Letters and packages that weigh more than 10 ounces and/or are more than half an inch thick use stamps because postage cannot be dropped in a collection box or picked up by a carrier.

Take them to your local Post Office reseller instead. This requirement does not apply to Click-N-Ship customers.
