Hogan Announces Maryland Preparations for Omicron Variant – CBS Baltimore

BALTIMORE, Md. (WJZ) – Governor Larry Hogan convened a news conference Wednesday to discuss the Omnicron variant and how Maryland is preparing for it against the seasonal rally.
During his speech, Hogan emphasized that Omicron may be more transmissible than previous strains of COVID-19 and that it may pose a higher risk of reinfection.

However, he noted that it will take several weeks before there is enough data to determine the effectiveness of the vaccine against the variant.

News comes in the footsteps of Maryland’s announcement that they have passed 1 million COVID-19 booster shots.
Hogan, stated before that he doesn’t see a need for shutdowns or lockdowns, but recommends that all adults get a booster shot.

Hogan also emphasizes the importance of testing. In an effort to expedite this, Maryland has taken steps to make rapid antigen testing more widely available.
