HISD masking mandate: Parents protest as district re-evaluates mask policy

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) – Some HISD parents kept their children home from school while others attended school district headquarters Friday to protest against the mask policy.

A crowd of about two dozen parents was adamant about scrapping the district’s mask regulations, arguing that the policy interfered with their children’s ability to learn.

“It feels like they’re taking advantage of our children because they don’t have a voice of their own. So we’re here today because we feel it’s important to give them a voice and to take the face off their face. Masks are really important. That creates a lot, Erika Taurel, the parent said, “I’ve heard stories about people getting migraines every day because masks affect them so much.

This comes after parents voiced displeasure about the policy at a board meeting last week, and at the time the parent threatened to walk away.

However, Dr Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infectious disease expert, said in an interview with CNN on Thursday night that there were still “risks” to the lifting of mask regulations. school.

“We’ve been to this show before, when things go down, you step back a little bit, and it bounces back,” Fauci said, adding that even without the mandated schools it seems to still okay, “you have to be prepared to re-mitigate again if you see a rebound.”

The Houston Teachers Association says it still wants mask requirements, and the CDC says students should still wear masks inside classrooms.

Director of HISD Millard’s House did say there’s a chance the masks will go away, but that will only happen after spring break if cases continue to trend down in Harris County.
