‘He’s such a good footballer’: Ange Postecoglou praises ‘super’ £44m Tottenham player

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Ange Postecoglou has heaped praise on right-back Pedro Porro following his performances in the early stages of the season.
Pedro Porro has been hailed by Ange Postecoglou after making a huge impact for Tottenham Hotspur this season.
Spurs beat Liverpool 2-1 on Saturday night, but that doesn’t tell the story of a crazy game.
Curtis Jones received a red card and a Luis Diaz goal was incorrectly ruled out before Son Heung-min put Tottenham ahead.
Cody Gakpo equalized for Liverpool, but Diogo Jota then received another red card, leaving the Reds down to nine players.
Liverpool fought admirably but were heartbroken when Joel Matip fired Pedro Porro’s cross into his own goal to give Spurs victory.

The winning goal came for Tottenham when Porro came forward and had a big influence in the final third.
We are used to Porro doing his best work from an attacking perspective.
Porro has scored three goals and four assists in a Tottenham shirt after joining from Sporting in January.
Spurs spent big on Porro; A total of £44 million as they agreed a £5m loan deal before making the move permanent for £39m.
Ange Postecoglou seems to love Porro’s attacking game, but also his improvement in defense.
Postecoglou told TRACK PLAY that in his opinion Porro has been “super” this season, especially as he was on the bench for the opening game of the season at Brentford.
Postecoglou noted that Porro has adapted really well this season and has shown his technical and athletic abilities.
The Australian added that Porro has worked very closely with coach Matt Wells to improve his defensive game
“Pedro was great,” said Postecoglou. “He wasn’t in the starting line-up in the first game, but he really adapted in pre-season. Obviously we’re asking our fullbacks to play a different type of role than what they’re used to, but I think he and Destiny have adapted to it really well.”
“They’re trying to learn, they’re trying to understand. I think it suits him in many ways because he is such a good footballer. Technically he is a very good footballer and also a great athlete. You could see that today. We needed both him and Destiny, who is here today, along with Micky, because when you see how quick they are up front in transition, our guys really had to be on top of their game defensively.”
“That’s the area where he works really hard, especially Matt Wells and the whole defense. All the defenders have worked really hard on their defensive principles with Matty Wells and I think you can see the fruits of their labour,” he added.

Porro stats against Liverpool
Whether or not you count Porro’s cross as an assist for Matip’s own goal, the former Manchester City star was statistically outstanding against Liverpool.
Porro scored three key passes, a successful dribble and a precise cross, showing his technical side.
But the defensive impact was also there, as Porro recorded six tackles and five clearances as well as an interception, a successful aerial duel and blocked two shots.
That’s really impressive from Porro and it looks like Postecoglou is really getting the best out of him after a mixed start at Tottenham earlier this year.
