‘He’s so good’: Glenn Hoddle says a ‘very good’ player joined Tottenham three years too late

Glenn Hoddle says Tottenham Hotspur should have signed James Maddison ‘three years ago’ and that the summer signing and Harry Kane are ‘made for each other’.
The Tottenham legend added that James Maddison’s move to Spurs will be “the start of his England career” and that his international team-mates “don’t see pictures that he sees”.
During the January 2020 transfer window, Spurs parted ways with Christian Eriksen, who was then moving to Inter. At this point, Hoddle felt Maddison should have entered the building, he said Premier League Productions (08/13/23 at 13:15).
Instead, a lot of money was spent on the likes of Tanguy Ndombele, Giovani Lo Celso and even Rodrigo Bentancur, who did a good job.
But most of the players struggled, which is why the team kept slipping and missing out on European football since last season.
While Hoddle is delighted with Maddison’s arrival, he also expressed frustration at how late the deal came about.

“When Maddison came to the club I think they should have brought him in three years ago,” Hoddle said. “I think he is that good in a better team.
“I think he and Kane are made for each other. Harry doesn’t have to give up playing in this Tottenham side by completing a ten and a nine.
“Kane had someone now, last time he had Eriksen, and since then he hasn’t had anyone to put a ball on a plate for him. Then Maddison comes in and that excites me. But I think the manager always knew there was a chance Harry would move on.
“He sees images that others don’t see – I think we’ll see the best of this lad at Tottenham.” I think he’ll push people on the England side. He has more goals ahead of him, this could be the start of his England career. I see him doing things at Leicester and I’m like, ‘My word, I don’t see any other players on the England team doing anything like that.’ You don’t see pictures like him. He’s a very, very good midfielder.”

Maddison will be successful at Spurs
He provided two assists on his Premier League debut for Spurs and looked at home under the new Ange Postecoglou system.
From the three defensively oriented coaches in the dugout, fans can now look forward to attacking and possession football.
Maddison will thrive under this system and will absolutely cook as he is already a fan favorite.
